Shootfighting dates way back in Japanese history as a great martial art and form of self defense, although it is a very provocative sport it still ranks up there as one of the most well used martial arts in the world. It is mainly used as a ring sport in competitions such as Vale tudo and the pro circuit shoot fighting organizations found throughout japan.

There is also a lot of fighting done while standing and punches, elbows and kicks are used with this. A fight can soon be brought to an end with intense moves that may be utilized either from the ground or while standing. The usage of submission locks are the most deadly form of fighting technique and can result in a broken bone.

With this sport there are not belt classes as the sport originated on the streets as a way of self defense. Both on the streets and as competition it has proven itself through time to be a great form of self defense and attack.
