RECAP - Karate Combat 36: Souza vs Skrivers

Karate Combat 36 returned once again to the Universal Studios Backlot on October 29th. There were many exciting fights, and multiple KO Finishes on this card, with many fans calling it their favorite event of Karate Combat's newest era.
In this article, we'll focus on three out of many incredible full-contact battles.

Bruno Souza vs Edgars Skrivers
After a spectacular debut, the former UFC fighter and LFA Champion Bruno Souza decided to take a huge step up in competition. Edgars Skrivers was arguably the most dominant champion in Karate Combat history prior to his rematch loss to Luiz Rocha.
The fight in the early rounds easily went to Bruno Souza. Skrivers was pressuring, but Souza always remained just out of range. Souza blitzed in to land clean strikes before blitzing back out, using footwork to stay at a safe distance. However, this constant backpedaling tired Souza. In the later rounds, his excellent footwork grew less impressive.
In typical Skrivers fashion, 'The Bearslayer' brought Souza into the deep waters of a 5 Round Fight. In fact, the fight went to a sudden victory round that Skrivers won.
This made Karate Combat history as the first fight to go a full 6 rounds.

Fernando Paz vs Diego Avendano
Fernando Paz has been a dark horse in the division. His only loss going into this fight was against my number 1 ranked Welterweight. Despite this he has been overlooked.
Conversely, Diego Avendano was a highly touted prospect and protege of Glory Kickboxing Hall of Famer Bazooka Joe.
Avendano landed good shots throughout the fight but was noticeably stiff in his debut. Meanwhile, Paz was throwing very fluid combinations, mixing up very well going low and high. This would pay dividends in the second round when he landed a clean right on Avendano, knocking him out cold.
In his post-fight interview, Paz called out the Welterweight Champion Josh Quayhagen.

Christina Kavakopoulou vs Kaye Asesor
“Nothing is f*cking claimed, until you claim it”- Christina Kavakopoulou
Going into KC36 Kaye Asesor was a massive underdog. But when she stepped into the Pit, she lived up to her nickname “The Filipina Warrior.”
The 'Warrior' indeed fought toe to toe with the Greek phenom Christina “Panthera” Kavakopoulou.
Nevertheless, after 3 rounds, Panthera worked her way to a clear unanimous decision victory. Utilizing, her superior takedown and kicking ability. Even landing a beautiful spinning head kick. After the fight she called out Sthefanie Oliveira for a fight she hopes will be for an inaugural Karate Combat Strawweight Championship.
